Springfield serves as the focal point for this survey of southeastern Colorado, where the established grid of the town site gives way to the open expanses of the Comanche National Grassland. The landscape is defined by the winding paths of Plum Creek, Bear Creek, and Cat Creek, which cut through the high plains terrain. These seasonal drainages are interspersed among an extensive network of rural county roads, such as Co Rd MM and Co Rd 19, which delineate the section lines of the township and range system.
