The Steinhatchee River defines the lower reach of this coastal landscape, serving as the border between Taylor and Dixie counties before emptying into Deadman Bay. The settlement of Steinhatchee occupies the northern bank, where a dense grid of streets like Riverside Dr and Central Ave meets the water. To the west, the coastline is a complex network of salt marshes and tidal features, including the Big Bend Wildlife Management Area Tide Swamp Trl.
