Mendocino National Forest dominates the western half of this quadrangle, where the steep terrain of Brushy Ridge and Elephant Hill gives way to the high, open Black Diamond Glades. The landscape is defined by its complex ridge systems, including Auk Auk Ridge and Black Diamond Ridge, which overlook the expansive drainage basin of Stony Creek. In the eastern sections, the terrain transitions into the broad Indian Valley and Salt Spring Valley, areas marked by historical spring sites like Salt Spring and Sulphur Spring.
