The Big Hole Mountains and the Snake River Range converge in this high-altitude section of the Targhee National Forest along the border of Bonneville and Teton counties. The landscape is defined by a dense network of drainage systems, including Pine Creek and the North Fork Pine Creek, which carve deep canyons through the high peaks. Several peaks serve as primary landmarks, notably Stouts Mtn, Liars Peak, and Chicken Peak.
