Just east of the urban center lies Sturgis Field, while the surrounding countryside is defined by family-named landmarks and rural congregations like Bethel Church and Bethany Church.

The terrain transitions from the lowlands of the Tradewater River and Cypress Creek to prominent elevations such as Blueberry Hill and Hudson Hill. An extensive network of drainage infrastructure, including Smith Ditch and Bishop Ditch, crisscrosses the agricultural flats, illustrating the effort to reclaim the river bottomlands for farming.
