USGS Topo · Published 1997

About this map

White Oak River serves as the dividing line between Onslow and Carteret counties as it flows past the historic waterfront of Swansboro. The mid-1990s landscape is defined by the expansive coastal wetlands and maritime forests of the Croatan National Forest, including the protected Pocosin Wilderness to the north. Development is concentrated along the mainland corridor through Cape Carteret and Bogue, while the southern portion of the map is dominated by the complex aquatic environment of Bogue Sound and the Intracoastal Waterway.
