Sylvan Reservoir and its associated Sylvan Dam anchor the northwest corner of this Grand County landscape, where the high-country drainage systems of the Rocky Mountains converge. The terrain is defined by a complex network of waterways, including the winding Little Muddy Creek and the Williams Fork, which are fed by numerous smaller streams like Kelly Creek and Boham Creek. Evidence of recreational land use is found at the Horseshoe Campground, situated near the junction of several county roads that provide access to the area's gulches and flats.
