Tally Lake dominates the central portion of this landscape, its western shores flanked by the Tally Lake Ranger Station and a nearby Tally Lake Campground. The area is defined by the management of the Flathead National Forest and Stillwater State Forest, where the terrain transitions from the deep cut of Stovepipe Canyon to the high elevations of Tally Mountain. The northeastern corner is marked by the small settlement of Lupfer and the transit corridor of the Great Northern railroad.
