The Little Colorado River meanders across this northern Arizona landscape, where the local water economy is anchored by the Woodruff Dam and its accompanying Woodruff Ditch. The terrain is characterized by high-desert features and vital water management sites, such as Cañoncito and several family-named stock tanks including Louis Hunt Tank and Jims Tank.

South of the river, the wooded expanse of the Ten Mile Cedars provides a distinct change in vegetation, bordering the dramatic geography of The Box of Tenmile.
