Thacker Pass serves as the central focal point of this high-desert landscape in northern Nevada, positioned between the Montana Mountains to the north and the Double H Mountains to the south. The terrain is characterized by deep drainages and canyons, most notably Moonshine Canyon and the winding course of Thacker Creek. Evidence of mineral exploration and land use is widespread, with numerous Prospect and Prospects labels marking the slopes of both mountain ranges. The eastern edge of the Kings River Valley touches the western boundary, providing a transition from the elevated passes to the flatter valley floor. Water sources are scarce but significant, including Cherry Spring, Pretty Creek, and Pole Creek, which illustrate the hydraulic patterns of this arid environment during the late twentieth century.
