The Grandstand rises above the dramatic eastern escarpment of the Hurricane Cliffs, where the arid landscape of Mohave County meets the Uinkaret Plateau. This 2018 survey documents a remote ranching landscape defined by essential water infrastructure, including Rock Crossing Reservoir, Higley Twin Tanks, and numerous catchments like Temple Pond and Dolittle Pond. The presence of these scattered tanks and ponds across the Lower Hurricane Valley and along Salaratus Draw reveals the critical importance of water management in this high desert terrain. The area is traversed by the historic Navajo Trl and Co HWY 105, reflecting long-established transit corridors through the drainage basins of Sunshine Draw and Hurricane Wash.
