Tilden School and the more eastern Lafayette School anchor the northern landscape of this California interior quadrangle. Surveyed just before the mid-1910s under the direction of R. B. Marshall, the area is defined by its evolving water management systems. The Turlock Reservoir sits prominent in the northwest, feeding the Turlock Ditch as it winds across the terrain of Three Tree Flat.

Evidence of early rural infrastructure is found in the Stanislaus and Merced county border, where the Dickenson School sits just inside the county line. The map captures a transition from the natural drainage of Dry Creek and Ingalsbe Slough toward an engineered agricultural landscape. Numerous unnamed roads and section lines show the orderly division of land that characterized this era of Central Valley development.
