Tilden serves as the central hub for this portion of McMullen County, situated near the confluence of the Frio River and Leoncita Cr. The landscape is defined by a complex network of ephemeral drainages and named depressions, including the curiously named Sloppy Hollow and Black Hill Hollow to the east. The terrain rises slightly at Register Hill, overlooking the broad basin of the Big Slough.
