About this map

Oreana Ridge and Long Tom Ridge dominate this high-elevation landscape along the border of Ravalli Co, Montana, and Lemhi Co, Idaho. The area is defined by its industrial and conservation history, containing portions of the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness and Salmon National Forest. Early 1990s surveying reveals the remote footprints of mining operations, including the Blue Plate Mine near Horse Creek and the St Clair Mine further south. Forest service lookouts such as the Oreana Lookout and Bear Trap Lookout provide strategic vantage points over the complex drainages of Tincup Creek and Wallace Creek. The primitive Oreana Road and Colson Road represent the primary human access points into this wilderness, which transitions into the Bitterroot Nat For along the northern margin.
