Rio de los Pinos carves through the northern reaches of this high-altitude landscape, defining the dramatic Toltec Gorge and the adjacent Toltec Canyon. This 2013 survey illustrates a transition zone where the Rio Grande National Forest meets the Carson National Forest along the border of Colorado and New Mexico. The terrain is characterized by massive elevations such as Toltec Mesa, Osier Mesa, and Brazos Ridge, which are dissected by numerous drainage systems including Cruces Cr and Escondido Cr.
