Toltec sits at the northern edge of this high-altitude landscape where the boundary between Colorado and New Mexico meets. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevation changes, notably the sheer Toltec Gorge and Toltec Canyon, through which the Rio de los Pinos carves its path. Large plateaus like Toltec Mesa and Osier Mesa dominate the central and western reaches, providing a stark contrast to the deep drainages of Cruces Cr and Escondido Cr.
