Allamuchy Mtn rises above a landscape of glacial lakes and river valleys at the meeting point of Sussex, Warren, and Morris Counties. The Pequest River and Musconetcong River drain the region, supporting a series of interconnected water bodies such as Cranberry Lake, Lake Tranquility, and Budd Lake. Transportation routes follow the natural topography, with the Lackawanna and Western RR cutting through the northern section near Greendell.
