About this map

The northern Maine wilderness of Piscataquis County is captured here through 1975 aerial photography, showcasing a landscape defined by dramatic elevation and remote water bodies. High peaks dominate the terrain, including the sprawling Black Brook Mountains and the distinct summit of Black Cat Mountain. In the southern portion of the quadrangle, Wassataquoik Lake sits at the foot of Wassataquoik Mountain, illustrating the glacially carved character of the region. Unlike standard topographic maps, this orthophotoquad provides a direct visual record of forest cover and drainage patterns at the time of the flyover, from the winding path of Trout Brook in the north to the shadows cast by North Pogy Mountain. The absence of roads or structures emphasizes the isolation of these highlands during the mid-1970s.
