The Hiwassee Wilderness Trl and the Appalachian National Scenic Trail wind through this high-altitude landscape where the borders of Towns, Rabun, Habersham, and White counties converge. Much of the area is protected within the Chattahoochee National Forest, encompassing the Mark Trail Wilderness and Tray Mountain Wilderness. The settlement of Mountain Scene sits in the northwest near the headwaters of the Hiwassee River, while the southern reaches feature the famous Anna Ruby Falls. Numerous gaps and ridges, such as Tray Gap and Wolfpen Ridge, define the complex drainage patterns of Wildcat Creek and the Left Fork Soquee River. The historical route of the Unicoi Tpke remains a primary transit corridor through this part of the Blue Ridge, providing a look at the enduring connectivity of these mountain passes.
