Twelvemile Ridge and the surrounding high desert of Malheur County define this 2014 topographic study. The landscape is marked by prominent natural landmarks like Three Man Butte and the sharp elevation changes of Twelvemile Hill Grade. This is a territory of intermittent water and remote passage, where the seasonal drainage of Duck Creek and Twelvemile Creek carve through the basin. Human presence is largely defined by long-distance transit routes, specifically Whitehorse Rd and the Whitehorse Cutoff, which provide access through these high-altitude sections of southeastern Oregon. The presence of Coyote Lk at the western edge further illustrates the arid character of the region, where surveyors carefully tracked the township and range lines across several land divisions.
