The Initial Point Historical Monument marks a significant intersection of the Base Line and the Principal Meridian in this southern Indiana landscape. The terrain is defined by the winding course of the Patoka River and the eastern reaches of Patoka Lake, as well as numerous hollows such as Underwood Hollow and Hogs Hollow. Settlement patterns show small rural clusters like Valeene, Pearsontown, and Pine Valley scattered among the dense woodlands of the Hoosier National Forest.

Historical boundaries are visible throughout the region, most notably the Indian Treaty Boundary cutting across the northern reaches near Youngs Creek. The map documents a rural infrastructure of country roads, cemeteries, and Providence Ch, alongside managed water resources including Walton Lake and Timberlin Lake. The divide between Orange and Crawford Counties is clearly delineated as it passes through the southern portion of the quadrangle.
