Mojave National Preserve encompasses the northern portion of this landscape, dominated by the prominent elevation of Van Winkle Mtn. The terrain is defined by complex drainage systems that carve through the arid environment, including the namesake Van Winkle Wash and the winding Cut Wash. To the east, the foothills of the Clipper Mountains emerge, while the Middle Hills rise in the central portion of the sheet, illustrating the varied topography within this section of the Mojave Desert.
