Ventana sits at the western edge of a desert landscape defined by high ridges and wide, sandy drainage basins. The terrain is dominated by several distinct ranges including the Cimarron Mountains to the northeast and the Castle Mountains and Cave Mtn to the southwest. These geological formations create natural corridors such as Montazona Pass and Ventana Pass, which historically influenced movement through this part of Pima County.
