The University of S Dakota anchors the southern landscape of this 2015 survey, situated within the city of Vermillion along the northern banks of the Missouri River. The area is defined by the convergence of several waterways and drainage projects, including the Vermillion River, the Clay Cr Ditch, and the Yankton-Clay Ditch. To the north, Spirit Mound rises as a prominent landmark above Cabbage Flat, while the Spirit Mound Cr winds through the agricultural sections of the Missouri River valley.
