The Ottawa National Forest dominates this section of the Upper Peninsula, where the landscape is defined by the complex drainage of the W Br Sturgeon River. Several significant cascades are documented within this watershed, including Vista Falls, Hoover Falls, and the West Branch Sturgeon Falls. The terrain is characterized by a dense network of forest roads, such as Nfst-1657 and Nfst-1780, which provide access to a series of creeks including Maronen Cr, Cliche Cr, and Creeper Cr. Evidence of the region's recreational value is found in the path of the N Country National Scenic Trail as it winds through the southern half of the quadrangle. Bordering Ontonagon and Houghton counties, this area maintains its character as a managed wilderness where local landmarks are often tied to the water, such as Silver River and Humbug Cr.
