Walupt Lake serves as a central anchor for this wilderness area, situated where the Gifford Pinchot National Forest and Snoqualmie National Forest converge. The landscape is defined by its extreme alpine geography, where the high-elevation Goat Rocks and Gilbert Peak dominate the skyline. Glacial activity is clearly visible through the presence of the Conrad Glacier and Meade Glacier near the northern boundary.
