Ward Mountain dominates the eastern edge of the Bitterroot Range in this late 1990s survey, marking a transition between the Darby Ranger District and Stevensville Ranger District. The landscape is defined by the steep glacial cirques and high-altitude basins that contain numerous alpine bodies of water, including High Lake, Canyon Lake, and Kidney Lake. Access into the Selway Bitterroot Wilderness is traced by the Ward Mountain Trail, which climbs toward the summit from the east.
