Warm Springs Creek and its many seasonal tributaries define this high desert region of Harney County, where water management is central to the landscape. The geography is characterized by a network of catchments including Washboard Reservoir, Bobcat Reservoir, and Big Boulder Reservoir, which support ranching operations in this arid environment. Near the southern edge of the sheet, The Homestead stands as a focal point of human settlement amidst the sprawling terrain of Chicken Flat and Little Stinkingwater Basin. The drainage of Little Stinkingwater Creek flows past Buzzard Ridge toward the western boundary, while the northeast corner is dominated by the significant waters of the Warm Springs Reservoir. This 2011 survey reveals the vital importance of natural springs like Company Springs and Sorrel Spring in an area shaped by the requirements of livestock and the rugged topography of places like Gold Gulch and Buck Mountain.
