Modoc National Forest encompasses much of this high-elevation landscape in northeastern California, where the Pit River cuts through the southern reaches of the quadrangle. The terrain is defined by prominent volcanic and erosional features such as Washington Mountain, Westlake Butte, and the distinct formation of City Rock. A network of forest and county roads, including the historic Old Loveness Rd, navigates the complex system of canyons and gulches that drain the area.
