Wassataquoik Lake and its smaller counterpart, Little Wassataquoik Lake, anchor the southern half of this landscape in Piscataquis County. The terrain is defined by dramatic elevations including the Black Brook Mountains and South Pogy Mountain, which rise between the drainages of Trout Brook and Snub Brook. Human presence is sparse, marked primarily by the Black Brook Farm in the north and the South Branch Pond Campground near Pogy Notch.
