The settlement of Wattis serves as a focal point for the region's extraction history, situated near the active Plateau Mine and various other mine sites and drill holes. The landscape is deeply incised by drainages such as Serviceberry Creek and Miller Creek, while dramatic elevation changes are marked by features like The Steeps and Gentry Ridge. The infrastructure of the era is evident in the Old Railway Grade and the active Railway spur reaching toward the mines. Numerous pack trails and jeep trails crisscross the high benches, including Horse Bench and Telephone Bench, indicating a landscape managed for both resource extraction and forestry. The boundary between Carbon and Emery Counties runs through the western portion of the map, carving through the high ridges.
