Wayland serves as the primary municipal center in this section of Henry County, organized around a traditional grid that includes E Railroad St and W N St. The town is situated on a broad upland divide between several significant watercourses, most notably the Skunk River which carves through the southwestern corner of the quadrangle. North and east of the town, the landscape is defined by the branching network of Crooked Cr and its tributaries, including W Fork Crooked Cr and Williams Cr. To the west, the smaller settlement of Coppock sits near the riverbank, providing a second focal point for local history researchers. The presence of Coppock Access and the various rural roads like Sockum Ridge Rd illustrate the local infrastructure connecting these agricultural communities and river-fed drainage basins.
