Benton City and the neighboring settlement of Kiona serve as the focal points for this portion of the Yakima River valley. The landscape is defined by the significant agricultural infrastructure of the Kennewick Main Canal and the West Badger Lateral, which curve along the northern slopes of the Horse Heaven Hills. These hills rise sharply from the valley floor, creating a dramatic series of draws and ridges including Sheep Canyon, Scouten Canyon, and Carter Canyon.
