About this map

Humboldt National Forest dominates the southwestern quadrant of this Elko County landscape, where the high peaks of the East Humboldt Range rise sharply above the high desert floor. The transition from the alluvial fans of Starr Valley and Clover Valley to the alpine terrain of Greys Peak and Chimney Rock defines the local geography. High-elevation water sources including Angel Lake, Smith Lake, and Greys Lake are tucked into the glacial cirques of the range, feeding a network of drainages such as Trout Creek, Willow Cr, and Angel Cr that flow toward the lower basins.
