The Tohono O'odham Indian Reservation landscape is defined by vast desert basins and rugged mountain boundaries in this late-twentieth-century study. Much of the topography is shaped by the wide expanse of the Kaka Valley in the north and the Quijotoa Valley to the south, separated by ridges that rise sharply from the valley floors. Drainage patterns are dominated by seasonal watercourses like San Simon Wash and Kaka Wash, which carve through the arid terrain.
