Agate Fossil Beds National Monument anchors the southern portion of this Sioux County landscape, preserving a prehistoric fossil record of world renown. The Niobrara River carves a narrow valley through the high plains, flanked by prominent landforms such as Carnegie Hill and Univ Hill. These elevations were named for the institutions that conducted paleontological excavations here in the early 20th century, revealing mammal remains from the Miocene era. The map details an arid ranching and conservation environment where the Harris Neece Canal draws water from the river to support local agriculture. Transportation is limited to remote corridors like River Rd and Johnson Dr Rd, which follow the natural contours of the terrain and the winding course of Barngrover Cr in the northeast corner.
