1995 Map of White Ledge Peak

USGS Topo · Published 2000

About this map

Los Padres National Forest dominates the interior of this coastal terrain, where the high peaks of the Santa Ynez Mountains overlook the Santa Barbara Channel. In the mid-1990s, the southern edge of the map shows the transition from the steep wilderness of Snowball Mountain and White Ledge Peak down to the residential and educational developments of Carpinteria. The placement of the Cate School and the residential clusters at Shepard Mesa illustrate how development hugged the lower foothills during this era, constrained by the steep topography and the protected lands of the Matilija Wilderness to the north.
