The Rio Grande cuts a deep path through the center of this 2011 survey, defining the rugged geography of Los Alamos County. The modern residential layouts of White Rock and Pajarito Acres stand in sharp contrast to the surrounding canyon-and-mesa landscape. This area is heavily dissected by numerous drainages, including Pueblo Canyon, Mortandad Canyon, and Water Canyon, which all feed toward the river valley.

Transport and access are marked by the Otowi Bridge in the north and several distinct routes like E Jemez Rd and Indian Service Route 413. While the western portion of the map shows concentrated suburban development, the eastern side across the river, including Sagebrush Flats and La Mesita, remains largely undeveloped.
