San Ildefonso Pueblo Grant and the neighboring Pojoaque Pueblo Grant define the northern reaches of this mid-century New Mexico landscape. The territory is heavily partitioned by historic boundaries, including the Jacona Pueblo Grant and the northern extent of the Tesuque Pueblo Grant. Settlement is concentrated along the waterways in the east, specifically at Cuyamungue, where the Rio Tesuque flows near the road system.

Industrial history is preserved through the physical remnants of the Old Chili Line Railroad Grade, which skirts the western edge of the quadrangle near Caja Del Rio. The interior terrain is a complex network of dry washes and canyons, including Arroyo Calabasa and Arroyo Ancho. These features, along with scattered outposts like Horcado Ranch and Las Dos, reveal the spatial arrangement of ranching and indigenous land grants prior to later development.
