The Hole In The Rock Trail carves a path through this landscape, a significant late-nineteenth-century pioneer route crossing the high desert terrain. The northern reaches of the San Juan River are heavily altered by the backing waters of Lake Powell, forming Cha Bay and filling the lower portions of Cha Canyon and Desha Canyon.
