The rugged shoreline of Lake Superior meets the forest lands of the Upper Peninsula at Misery Bay in this 2023 survey. This reach of the Ontonagon and Houghton county line is defined by a complex drainage network where the Misery River and its various tributaries, including the North Branch Misery River and Little Misery River, carve through the interior. Near the southern edge of the sheet, the settlement of Winona sits just east of the East Sleeping River, positioned near the headwaters of several local creeks. The landscape is characterized by its hydrological features, from the cascading Wyandotte Falls on Ahola Creek to the secluded Pine Dam Lake. A network of logging and service roads like Camp 18 Rd and Evergreen Rd provides access to the timbered sections between the river valleys.
