Quabbin Reservoir dominates this landscape, having significantly altered the topography of Hampshire and Worcester counties. The massive Winsor Dam and Goodnough Dike stand as the engineering anchors of this water system, which flooded several former valley towns. On the Prescott Peninsula, peaks like Mt Ram and Mt Lizzie rise from the water, while the Quabbin Aqueduct tunnels below the surface. In the southern portion of the sheet, the Swift River flows through the Swift River Wildlife Management Area past West Ware. Local history is preserved at the Quabbin Park Cemetery and along historic transit routes such as the Monson Turnpike Road and Babcock Tavern Road, providing a record of the area's rural road network during the mid-twentieth century.
