Moreland Mill and the nearby settlement of Alaska Flat sit at the southern edge of this high-elevation landscape in the Piute Mountains. This part of the Sequoia National Forest is defined by a dense network of drainages including Woolstalf Cr and several branches of E Fork Erskine Cr. The terrain is marked by significant peaks such as Heald Peak and Nicolls Peak, providing a detailed look at the geographic transition where the Piute range meets the southern reaches of the Sierra Nevada.
