Wright Valley defines the northern portion of this landscape where the Hooker and McPherson county line divides the sandhills terrain. The region is characterized by extensive depressions and flatlands, most notably Big Lamunyon Flats and Little Lamunyon Flats, which suggest a hydrology dependent on seasonal pooling and localized drainage. Isolated markers such as Huffman and Petit stand along the few established routes through the valley, representing the sparse but persistent human presence in this part of the Nebraska Sandhills. The grid of Public Land Survey System townships, including t20n r34w and t19n r33w, provides the primary structure for land division in an area otherwise dominated by the natural contours of the valley floors and surrounding rises.
