Wupatki National Monument occupies the southwestern corner of this desert landscape, where high mesas and deep-cut drainage systems define the Coconino County terrain. The Little Colorado River meanders across the center of the sheet, providing a primary drainage channel for numerous seasonal tributaries including Mays Wash, Tohachi Wash, and Jackrabbit Wash. These waterways cut through prominent geological formations such as White Mesa and the striking Tloi Eechii Cliffs below Ward Terrace.
