Yellowbank sits at the heart of this high-plains landscape in Pueblo County, where a complex network of intermittent water sources and man-made impoundments supports the arid terrain. The geography is defined by numerous catchment basins, including Schoolhouse Reservoir, Baldwin Reservoir, and the uniquely named Bombing Range Reservoir near Hardesty Draw. These features, alongside Red Top Reservoir and Altman Reservoir, reveal the critical importance of water management for local ranching and land use. The drainage system of Mustang Creek and Yellowbank Creek weaves through the region, eventually leading toward Saunders Arroyo and Powell Arroyo. Traces of local industry appear at the Big Pit in the southern reaches, connected by a network of county roads like Co RD 729 that follow the section lines and natural contours of the plains.
