The mountain settlement of Adair sits at the high-elevation convergence of the Lolo National Forest and St. Joe National Forest along the Idaho-Montana border. This 2017 survey shows the repurposed corridor of the Hiawatha Rail Trail as it winds through the Bitterroot Mountains, tracing a path through the steep drainages of Loop Creek and Manhattan Creek. The terrain is defined by a succession of high summits, including Dominion Peak, Grays Peak, and Crittenden Peak, which mark the divide between Shoshone County and Mineral County.
