Agua Fria Mountain dominates this portion of the Chihuahuan Desert, a landscape defined by dramatic igneous uplifts and a complex network of seasonal drainages. During the late twentieth century, this region supported ranching operations like the Agua Fria Ranch, which relied on localized water sources such as Agua Fria Spring and Soda Spring. The terrain transitions from the high elevations of Whistler Mesa down to the broad expanse of Fizzle Flat.
