About this map

The Knik Arm shoreline and the burgeoning communities along the Glenn Highway define this mid-century Alaskan landscape. Growth is concentrated along the transportation corridor where the Alaska Railroad parallels the coast, connecting the settlement of Eklutna in the north to the expanding residential patterns of Birchwood, Chugiak, and Eagle River. The topography shifts abruptly from the tidal mudflats of Duck Flats to the high peaks of the Chugach Mountains, including Mt Magnificent and Rendezvous Peak.
