Angell Butte and the surrounding high desert of Crook County are defined by a network of seasonal water sources and distinct geological formations. The landscape is characterized by prominent flat-topped features like Ryegrass Table and Shaw Table, which rise above the drainages of Grindstone Cr and Trout Cr. Cattle ranching and land management are evident through the numerous artificial water catchments such as Payton Reservoir Number 2, Gollum Reservoir, and Brennan Reservoir.
